What Jason saw:
Category: 4/5
Result: Last
Yes, it is a race report from Jason... The shock and awe of it all...Week late because of finals, I bolted after I finished not waiting for my time and it took Delta Velo a week to get the times up. Sit back a bit long...
First off: Gaelan 25 min on the 10 mile, way to go! Boy was moving around 23 mph!
Where to start? Well first the winery there is pretty killer. The week before the future Mrs. Sage and I dropped in and well we bought all the wine for our wedding while we where there.
Okay on to the race.
My time: 54:53:00
My place: Last
Dislcaimer: Be happy this is not in IRAC format... How it went down:
So I get there with 1:15 to spare. Sign in. Get back set up the bike, and notice that the rear tire (tyre for the english) I spent two hours getting on was flat, again.(f%#&^*!) I knew it wasn't going to hold so I had to go with the training tire (tyre).
Punch in a pretty good warm up get a nice sweat going. Smack on the shoe covers head off to the bathroom then off to the course. Get to the line with a whole 35 seconds to spare....
I have one foot down and Casey sends me on my way. I get going, lovely day... Get the cadence to 95 ish and start moving. See my minute man about 3 mins in. I start slowly bringing him him. I hold off the stud behind me for a whole 22 mins! Things are going so-so, starting to learn why some TT riders move their seat slightly to the right...
I'm holing on getting closer to my minute man. Then another slight set back.. I come to a fork in the road. You are suppose to go left and then a 1/2 mile to the turn around. Well the marshall at this point is talking to a guy in a big truck and can't see him and I can't see him. I'm not sure of which way to go. So I had to hit the brakes and yelled and he pointed me the right way...
I now lost my rhythm and get going again. Pass a tractor... Hit the turn around. Go back up a slight hill and into the wind. Now things are starting to hurt.... Starting to feel the effect of having to restart up when you are at the edge. From there to about 2 miles before the finish I suffer. I loose sight of my minute man. The wind is kicking my butt.. About 2 miles out I recover enough and just put the hammer down. Thinking I at least need some diginity. To my surprise I still had something in the legs. So I just went hard for two miles and fiished with a 54:53:00
Overall: Pysically I felt great. I didn't push hard enough. I could have pushed a bigger gear and sucked it up more on the back leg. I didn't see black when I was done, lungs weren't burning. Wish I had my TT tire (tyre). My time was better than I thought. Had certain things been corrected before hand I know I could have taken at least a minute off my time if not more. But its a TT and you learn by trial and error. I made notes of what to correct for next time.
